On a partly cloudy Saturday morning, Dean Taylor was able to almost single-handedly put on the largest road race held in Concrete in the last several years. There were 9 starters and 8 finishers for the inaugural Cascade Days 5K run and 2 mile walk. The course started out in front of the Senior Center next to the Cascade Trail and went up onto Main Street past idling bulldozers and into a construction zone. Before crossing the new bridge, runners had to duck under an excavator blocking one side of the bridge. The course then went to the end of town and came back over the bridge and back onto Main Street. The last mile was out and back on the loose-gravel covered Cascade Trail which required some fancy weaving to get past the gate. Bryan Robertson came all the way from Sudden Valley to smoke the field by over a minute and a half. Twins Terry and Sherry came across the line together to lead the women. Ruth pulled off the course before the last section on the Cascade Trail to help out with the finish line, otherwise she may have been able to sprint the last mile to take second overall. Despite the obstacles, it seemed like everyone who ran had a good time and all finishers won placing ribbons if they hung around long enough! Hopefully Dean is not still out there trying to pick up the cones while maneuvering past all of the heavy construction equipment!
