Lost Lake 50KThe Lost Lake 50K will hold its 4th annual trail race on Saturday May 12th, 2012 at the base of Chuckanut Mountain. This course is not only scenic, but will be quite challenging as well. The 8,200 feet of elevation gain will melt away when you see the San Juan Islands to the west, the Skagit farmlands to the south, the town of Bellingham and Canadian mountains to the north, and amazing views of Mt. Baker and North Cascades to the East. Surrounded by lush old-growth forests (where you would expect to run into Bigfoot), runners will pass by Fragrance and Lost Lakes. These lakes are only a few of the many treasures along the way. On a clear day, no trail description could ever do justice to the true beauty of this area where the Cascades plunge into the ocean. There are several challenging, leg-burning, steep ascents, slow, technical, rolling ridges, and a limited supply of fast "free speed" on the descents.Whether you're considering trail running for the first time or are an experienced ultra runner, we promise you a rewarding experience in a beautiful environment. While awards are given to the top three female and male finishers, this event is designed to encourage the enjoyment of trail running and emphasize personal achievement. Field is limited to 150 entrants. Date of Event: Saturday, May 12, 2012 Starting Time: 8 am (early start at 7 am if you think you'll need the extra
time) This year there will be a 10 hour time limit.

Review: The clear blue sky and high 60s temps made any outdoor activity more appealing but great weather aside, Lost Lake delivered everything that makes Northwest ultrarunning rewarding. Race Director Alvin Crain gave us miles of gorgeous single track, impeccable course marking, friendly competent volunteers and a semi-sadistic scenic detour for a close up view of the Lost Lake waterfall. The course and the logistics were stellar. Lost Lake is challenging (34 miles and > 8k of climb), very pretty, and very well organized. Put it on your calendar for next year. You won't regret it. ~ Charlie Crissman (Race Director of the Cascade Crest Classic 100 Mile Endurance - read Charlie's Blog: http://cascadecrest100.blogspot.com)
